What Does it Take to Be a Good Software Tester?

Besides having some basic knowledge of software applications and systems, a good software quality assurance (QA) tester needs some personality skills that are interesting and somewhat unique to the technical world. These traits include: detail-oriented, skeptical, determined, assertive, thick-skinned, and able to deal with hours and hours of repetitive (and boring) testing tasks. A good software QA tester must also be somewhat negative and be able to find problems in software systems - which can also be interpreted as finding problems with a software programmer's work (not always easy from a political standpoint).
